People and Places
—the stories that honour local people and landscapes that shape our travels.
Beyond the beach clubs and crowds, Bali still breathes. Along the north coast, coral gardens stretch quietly beneath the surface; in the hills, temples and rice terraces hold centuries of rhythm and ritual. This is the side of Bali we love — slow, grounded, and deeply connected to the island’s people and sea.
Lombok and Sumbawa are where the raw edges of Indonesia still show. Volcano peaks meet coral gardens, and local life moves quietly around sea and soil. From Rinjani’s ridgelines to whale sharks in Saleh Bay, these islands remind you that adventure and care can coexist — and that connection runs deeper than any dive.
Central to East Java moves at its own rhythm — ancient temples, volcano sunrises, and a creative pulse that runs through cities like Jogja and Malang. From the quiet grace of Borobudur to the surreal landscapes of Bromo, this is where heritage and raw nature still meet. We travel with people who protect both — preserving stories, crafts, and the land that holds them.
North Sumatra is a region of contrasts — volcanic lakes, ancient rainforests, and coral-covered coastlines. From Lake Toba’s deep caldera to Bukit Lawang’s jungles and the wild dives off Pulau Weh, it’s a place where nature still holds the rhythm. We work with local hosts who honour that balance — protecting the forests, supporting the communities, and keeping Sumatra’s magic intact.
Nusa Tenggara Timur is where Indonesia’s wild heart still beats. From the swirling currents of Komodo to Alor’s untouched reefs, every dive feels like discovery. It’s a region shaped by ocean and culture — remote, raw, and real. This is where coral walls meet volcanic cliffs, and where our local partners work hand in hand with their communities to keep it that way.

About us
—the tales of how ChickenFeet Travels came to be and what drives us forward.
In 2013, I left everything behind and travelled for 495 days to recover from burnout. What started as an escape became the foundation of everything I do now. From finding unexpected friendship in hostels to learning that Southeast Asia would always feel like home, this is what FUN-employment really taught me—about travel, connection, and myself.
From coffee culture to conscious travel, we explore the evolution of mindset that’s shifting the way we explore the world—and how ChickenFeet Travels is leading the charge.
We didn’t mean to start a travel company. Chicken Feet Travels began with scribbled notes, shared meals, and the kind of stories that stuck long after the tan faded. Here’s how it all began — and what it’s here to do.
I didn’t start Chicken Feet Travels to build a business—I started it because I wanted to share all the people and places that made me smile. After years of living and learning in wild places, I realised the way we travel could shape the world for the better. This is who I am, and why I do what I do.
Singapore was where Simon and Jin met, and where we started. But we continuously pick Singapore and Changi Airport because it works. As the heart of our travel operations, Singapore’s reliability, ease of transit, and regional connections make it the smartest choice every time.
From trekking with the Kogi to questioning voluntourism, these stories changed everything I thought I knew about travel—and helped shape ChickenFeet Travels into what it is today.
A dive trip with friends, a baby, and some whisky turned into a chaotic adventure—and the beginning of Chickenfeet Travels.
Why would anyone name a travel company after a weird, bony food? The answer lies in pho, Singlish, and a love of unexpected adventures.
We follow people, not hype. Our dive trips are built around currents, coral health, and trusted local guides—not crowd-chasing or over-promising. Here’s how we choose where (and with whom) we dive.
Diving shaped my life, my friendships, and ultimately Chickenfeet Travels. This is my story—from the first freezing dives in Australia to a thousand logged dives across the world.
Conservation
—our unwavering commitment to ensure that travel leaves places better than we found them.
Tourism has the power to heal—or to harm. From Spain’s protests to Southeast Asia’s closed beaches, we’ve seen what happens when travel isn’t managed well. But there’s another way. This post explores how we got here, what COVID revealed, and how Chicken Feet Travels helps you experience the world with care, connection, and curiosity.

What does “doing the right thing” in travel actually look like? Often, it’s not as simple as boycotting a place or only choosing what looks perfect. Sustainability, like healing, requires nuance, commitment, and the courage to stay in the relationship—even when it’s messy.
Most travellers don’t realise how much of their money leaks out of the places they visit. At Chicken Feet Travels, we work to change that. This post unpacks tourism leakage—what it is, why it matters, and how small shifts in spending can create a big impact for local people, ecosystems, and cultures.
From statistics to scuba tanks, Jin shares how a love for sharks and a disillusionment with science shaped the soul of ChickenFeet Travels.

Not all elephant experiences are ethical — but that doesn’t mean we should turn away completely. This post explores the real cost of conservation, the signs of a responsible sanctuary, and why these gentle giants still give us a reason to hope.
