Yogyakarta is where ancient temples and modern street food live side by side — and somehow, it all makes sense. Visit the majestic Hindu Prambanan and the serene Buddhist Borobudur, both UNESCO-listed and wildly photogenic. Then swap temples for adventure and lower yourself into Jomblang Cave, where a beam of sunlight turns the earth into a spotlight.
IDEAL FOR: travellers who love their history with a side of sambal, and don’t mind getting a little muddy to find the light.

All year long is great because it is a city. During the rainy season, photos won’t pop as much but it is quieter and you just need to bring rain gear.
Our favourite months are February, April, May when the weather is the best and it is not tourist high season.July and August are peak travel season and it is unusually hot in all of Java until September.
